Holiday Let Down
This yearly cycle starts right around Thanksgiving and goes pretty much up till New Years. Every year we go through the motions of stating our New Year's resolutions and for some of us we struggle for months trying to keep them. Some give up in a day or two, others try to keep up with them longer, but eventually they are usually all broken by June.
I didn't have any big expectations for this year at Christmas, my partner was in Jail and I was spending the holiday's with my two best friends and called all my family and friends that I could think of. But other than that I just wanted a quiet time to myself and read my books then deal with a lot of people filled with cheer and gift giving.
Unfortunately, things don't always pan out as they are planned, I had thought that I would have enough money to pay my phone bill this week and keep it from getting shut off, but unfortunately, my funding fell through and it looks like my phones are going to end up being turned off till I get paid on the 3rd of January.
This put's a wrinkle in my plans in keeping in touch with my partner. It also limits me on some of my other plans that I had going on for the end of the year. But in the end everything is going to be alright eventually. I am not too worried at this moment. I am trying to get things situated to so that I can move into a new place after the first of the year. I am hoping that with all my planning and working through Miracle of Love to get into a very nice place works out smoothly so that by the time the dust settles and the partner is home that the new place is ready to move into.
I have also taken this time this holiday season to apply at Lyft and Uber trying to drive with one of them. Unfortunately, my background check came back with some issues and I had to send in to get them disputed and corrected. So I am back in the waiting phase for that. I have also put in my application to AT&T through Spring Mobile who I used to work for in Jacksonville and I am hoping that I hear something back about going back to work for them. I really enjoyed my position in Jacksonville and I have been trying to get back in with them since they let me go due to faulty information that they pulled during my background check.
All in all the new year is looking much better and more hopeful then 2018 did. Yet, with the holiday let down and my mood being all over the place, I have been strolling down memory lane lately and going through old posts and pictures from Facebook and Twitter and other areas of my life. I started reaching out to people from my past trying to rekindle lost friendships and relationships along the way. I think that getting back in touch with people that have meant something to me in the past is an important part of how I am going to move forward. Now that I am 50 I realize that I am missing out on a lot of their lives and I feel alone at times.
For the most part the contact has been positive and well received and I am looking forward to what the future may bring with the coming months and even years as we progress on a new journey of friendship and companionship. I look forward to reaching people who from my distant past seemed to have drifted away and I haven't heard from in years. We will see if things pan out the way I hope and pray they will.
Don't let the post party let down get to you. Don't feel like you have screwed up irreparably your diet because you indulged during your family gatherings, you have a whole year to lose those pounds that you have gained. Family and friends are just a call or text away, and you can stay in touch with them easier now more than ever. With technology the way it is today there should be no reason why you can't keep in touch with those that are important to you. Life is full of unexpected moments and we need to realize and take advantage of them as they happen.
The year is winding down and things are finally drawing to a close for 2018. It is time to start looking forward to 2019 and all the excitement and adventures that it will bring to your life. Forget about everything that you went through in 2018 because it is over and done now and can't be changed even if you wanted to. That is what is funny about the past it is the only thing that is set in stone and can't be changed! The future is fluid and elastic and isn't written till you stumble through it. We don't even know that we are in it till it is past. Because the present is constantly changing and fluxing as we make decisions. Our feet may be on the path, but until you take a step the present doesn't change to the past. Just think about it.
As always my hopes and dreams are with you,

Walk away While you Can. You don't know when your last moment will be.
But it is now 2018 and the world has gotten darker and each morning I wake up to news that I have lost another friend or acquaintance because of an overdose. Drugs have become a major problem for the middle and lower class society here in America and it isn't getting better no matter how much money the government spends on their war against drugs. Prescription pain killers, Methamphetamines and Heroine are the drugs on the street, easy to come by and readily available. Fentanyl is being used to cut many of the substances that are readily available to drug users and is the leading cause of death from ODing. Since 2017 I have lost close to 150 friends and acquaintances to overdose, and that is way too high. The number needs to be zero!
By December of 2017 I had my fill of the drug culture and society that Daytona Beach, Florida hosted. I was tired of being homeless, hungry, scrounging for drugs and constant theft. I was tired of freeloaders and others that were just around because they knew that I was connected and could find them their next fix. So I packed up what few things I had left and I moved to Jacksonville, FL where I started over. Within a few months I was on my feet and doing well for myself. I had gotten a job, got myself back into care and was making improvements in my life. Things were going good for me and I wanted to share them with my boyfriend and partner, Dominic. Unfortunately, after being in Jacksonville for a week he decided that he missed the old life so much that he went back to it and left me sitting at home. He kept saying that he was coming back that he wanted to be with me, but every opportunity he had he squandered and stayed struggling with his addiction in Daytona. Now there is a reason why I am telling you all of this and it is to paint a picture for you and to tell you my story. What happened to me and why I am thankful now that I am finally clean. The setbacks and mistakes that I made along the way and how I am focusing on myself to avoid making them again. Each of us can relapse at any moment, it happens, and it is something to be expected from time to time. But let me tell you something that you might not be aware of. You never know when you draw up that last shot or snort your next line if it might be your last. God is with you and is going to continue to be with you, but He only gives people so many chances to change their ways before he takes those chances away.
In late February I started talking with a friend of mine and Dominic's, I listened to what he told me, which turned out to be my mistake, because I went from the frying pan into the fire. Will had painted a picture of Dominic that was very easy to imagine, used words and arguments that Dominic and I had in the past that only could have been come from him to Will. Will had me so convinced that Dominic didn't love me and that Will was the better person who was going to come and take care of me and sweep me off my feet. The reality was so much different then the fairy tale, let me tell you. Yes, Will did show up and get a job within the first couple of days being there, but the cost of bringing him down from Pennsylvania, and then the expense of having stay with me, began to take a heavy toll. Not to mention that he chose to leave the 1st week of April supposedly to go to court, yet I found documents that he left behind showed that he really didn't have court, he just took off. Trying to minimize my losses I tried to close my bank account which never happened because he over drafted it by 800.00. I ended up cancelling the credit card that was used to rent the car he drove to Pennsylvania, but even today I am being sued by Hertz because there was damage to the car, it was turned in late and in the wrong city. Now let's talk about the reason why he left. Plain and simple he brought drugs into the home after he was told not too. I ended up doing them with him and relapsed. He got funny and stayed away from me but accused me of trying to pick up the neighbor and some random kid off the street. It got so bad that he got physical with me and when that happened it was literally over between us. Dominic and I were together 3 1/2 years before there was any violence between us, and after all the fighting Dominic and I had been through and the associated abuse, there was no way I was taking it from someone else. I was determined and shut myself totally down. I wouldn't give Will a break nor another chance. It just wasn't in the cards.
Meanwhile Dominic had been left in the cold and locked up in jail in Volusia county because he failed to appear in court even though I had sent him back in enough time to make the court date. Because I was so angry with him and I wanted to make sure that he was the right person for me, I wrote him a detailed letter explaining what I thought I knew, everything that Will had told me, I explained that I understood that he wasn't attracted to me and didn't want to be with me and that Will was there now and we had made plans and things were going good. I did however send Dominic a care package as I normally would have but I let him sit in jail. I really thought it was the best thing to do and I thought that it would teach Dominic a lesson and everything would turn out for the better. What I didn't know is that my roommate's partner was going to die and that my dad was going to find out that he had stage 4 inoperable lung cancer and that my world was going to fall back apart.
I ended up going back to Daytona, at first to get some drugs because my roommate really needed them to cope with the passing of his partner. But I went back on the promise of making some money by helping a friend try and get a car. I figured this would help me recover some of the losses I took when Will left. But it only made my life so much worse. I ended up getting my car, wallet and Iphone stolen. My checking account was flooded with fraudulent transactions and I got extremely sick and ended up in the hospital from the end of May till the beginning of June and then to make matter worse from June 20th through the end of the month, then ended up back in there from the 1st of July till the 28th. Again my car was stolen and this time was involved in a couple of accidents. I lost my place in Jacksonville, was strung back out on drugs the entire time I was in Daytona and was extremely sick on top of it.
Dominic got out of jail while I was going through this series of events and was so angry with me for the way that I left him and let him sit in jail that he wouldn't talk to me and only wanted to fight with me. This made my situation that much worse because the one person who I thought would understand what I was going through would be him. But he turned his back on me and left me to my own devices, which on hindsight was probably for the best. In Mid-July my father and I had a blow out my step mother drove me to the McDonalds. I ended up having a minor heart attack and ended up back in the hospital till the end of July, Dominic got caught shoplifting again and was in jail and I ended up having no place to go when I got out of the hospital. I ended up calling my life long friend Judy in Orlando and asking her if I could come and stay with her till I could get on my feet again. I have been here since July and it is now Mid-December and I am still here. Dominic and I eventually start talking and set our differences aside and made up with one another and when he finally got out of jail I brought him to Orlando to stay with me and Judy. Unfortunately, that wasn't going to last because in October when I took Dominic back to Daytona to court he met up with some friends to get some of his clothes and jewelry and the next thing I know he has brought drugs into the house.
This led to major problems. Both of us relapsed and he ended up cheating on me with someone else and I got hurt. He fought with my friend and roommate and was asked to leave. It wasn't pretty, but it is what it is. I took him to a friends in Deland where his relapse continued till he ended up back in jail on November 25th. He is still in jail today but we are hopeful that he will be out by the 19th of December and we will be able to finally spend our first Christmas together. Since we have never been able to share a Thanksgiving, my birthday or Christmas together since we got together in 2013.
I went into this whole story to show that everyone no matter how hard they try is prone to relapsing and falling back into a habit and pattern of usage over and over again no matter how far or how hard they have tried to get away from the drugs and the people that have them. Because we are all human and we suffer from anxiety, depression, insecurities it is hard to stay away from a long term habit like that. I used to think that by changing the people you hang around, the place you live and your entire surroundings that you could totally escape it. That isn't the truth! It will be a life long battle trust me when I tell you this.
But now let me talk to you about the friends and loved ones that weren't so fortunate as me and Dominic, those that didn't escape the epidemic that is sweeping the nation and the world. Many of my friends are no longer here, so it is my job to convey to you their story to leave with you the last thought that they each had before the past from this world to the next. Like Dominic and I they thought that it would never happen to them, that they were stronger than the addiction and that they could do just one more line, one more shot and it would be okay. But, in all cases they were wrong. My dear friend Jade was found outside of an abandoned resort so desiccated that they could not identify her by anything other than the serial number on the pacemaker that was installed in her heart because like many of the young ladies in Daytona she contracted Cardio myelitis and cardiotoxicity associated Methamphetamine usage. Neil was found blue and in his car dead because of a hot shot that had been laced with heroine. So many other I could name have lost their lives to drug use and overdosing. But drug use alone is not the only cause of loss of life, many of the gay people I know are heavy into the use of methamphetamine to get their high and intensify the feeling of sexual activity. Many of them have poor diet and end up forgetting or stop taking their medications and before you know it they have complications to HIV/AIDS that they are dealing with.
To sum up what I am feeling and the fears that I have for you I am going to include an earlier post that I made a couple of days ago. But first let me tell you that each time you pick up that needle, make your next line, you are taking your own life into your own hands. You think that you are strong enough, that you don't have an addictive personality or you can handle it just one more time. You are wrong too many of our friend are no longer here because they too thought that way and felt that they could beat back the addiction that was plaguing them. We are not strong enough alone to combat this demon, and it will never be a battle that can be fought and one by a single decision. This is a life long commitment and a struggle that will consume you for months and possibly years to come. But I have known others that have fought and won, some days are harder than the next, some days might be easier to cope, but after a time the fight will become second nature to you and you will stop focusing on the battle and will begin living again. Reach out to those around you, tell them about your issues, your addictions and ask them for help. The first step in dealing with a problem is knowingly acknowledging that you have one. Do not be ashamed to ask for help or guidance it may just save your life. So now I want to dedicate this to my fallen friends, lost loved ones and anyone else who is battling this dreaded demon of Drug addiction.
To all the friends, family, loved ones, acquaintances that I have lost my heart goes out to you and I want you to know that my world has become less bright and so much smaller since you are no longer in it:

Finally Alone but not at Peace.
Every relationship, every person I have ever dated not only had to deal with me, but also the people that I wanted to try and help along the way. It was never just me and that one person it was me and my entourage. Tonight, I am feeling particularly vulnerable and reminiscing about my past and what I have been through. I am thinking about all the people that have come in and out of my life, those that I really cared about and those that just was there because I thought I was helping them and doing the right thing. My mother even pointed out to me the other night on the phone that I have always gone the wrong way when trying to help people out. I had a single thought in my head that if I could help one person out and get them off the streets or off the drugs then I was accomplishing something. I ended up inviting these people into my home, providing them with security, comfort, food and shelter as well as providing cigarettes and other items. Some people genuinely took my help, learned from me and made some remarkable changes in their lives. Others, I ended up just enabling and helping them maintain their current lifestyle. Problem was that the person I was involved with had to deal with these people and their using me and me doing for them and I forced them to accept it. Not right or fair.
Here I am and my 50th birthday is approaching fast, in just a few short months I will be there and yes it is a blessing to make it this far, it has been a struggle and a near impossible feat to get here. I have endured and survived so many illnesses and surgeries and yet I keep on chugging along. But because of my choices that I made when I was younger, I hurt and alienated a lot of people along the way. I ended up leaving people that loved me and cared about me, for the users and abusers of the world and though I was trying to help others, and trying to spread my own kind of hope and peace in this world. I regret the sacrifices and the people that I lost along the way. Over the last few days I have been reaching out to some of these individuals, past relationships and ex's that had to endure and suffer through my indulgent and reckless behavior. In away I am hoping that they will have gotten to a point in their life that they can accept my apology and forgive me for the struggle and heartache I put them through.
2018 has been a year of learning for me, I have had to endure crisis after crisis and fend of users and abusers at every turn. This summer was extremely hard when I got trapped by my own foolishness and was sorely taken advantage of. I ended up losing everything that I had left. The few things that I had been able to salvage over the past 4 years I finally lost and at the end of July I had to start over completely from scratch. The last time I had to do that was in 2012 when my dad sent to Atlanta and brought me to Daytona because of my living situation and my health. My doctors had feared that after my kidney surgery and all the bladder and kidney infections that I had been through that living on the streets of Atlanta would end up killing me. So when Bobby O'hara and I broke up and Robert Miller and I were bouncing from friend to friend and place to place with nothing of our own I called my dad and ended up moving to Florida. Thanks to Linda Stapleton for driving me to the bus station or I would never have survived at all. Unfortunately, the years haven't been all that kind to everyone, we lost Linda, Mike, and so many others along the way. But as I am learning Death is part of Life itself and is just a gateway to another place. I am keeping faith that it is too a much better place, where all the struggles of our past are forgotten and life of plenty is granted.
But tonight as I am writing this because it is a holiday weekend and I a sitting in my room writing in my blog, I am not out getting high with my so-called friends, or people that chose to be around me because I have money or drugs. For the first time I am finally Alone, I don't have a boyfriend and I am not in a relationship, I am not walking up and down beachside or walking the streets of Atlanta high as hell on Meth. I am not surrounded by a bunch of people who need or want something from me. I am not sitting here worrying about how to pay the bills to keep a roof over everyones head or the power from being turned off, nor am I worrying about what everyone is going to eat tomorrow. I am sitting here and for the first time in my entire life I am thinking about myself and what I want. I am trying to figure out what I would like to do for my 50th birthday to make it memorable and special, and I am wondering who would even want to come and see me. How many people really still care enough about me out there to want to spend time celebrating my milestone birthday.
I have invited one person definitely and he said that it would be cool. I have mentioned it to several others, but the reception has been rather mellow. Maybe I am deluding myself thinking that anyone out there still cares about me. I wanted to invite all my ex's and see which ones come, and see if they are with anyone else and if they were happy. Hoping against hopes that they could tell me the secret of how they finally got there because the mystery still eludes me. I always thought that relationships and life were supposed to get easier the older we got, but surprise the joke was on me because not only do they get more complex and complicated they are fraught with new issues like declining health. In the back of my mind I have always thought that I would get back together with one of my ex's that our story wasn't finished yet, but I am not sure anymore. I wrote not long ago that one of the reasons that I keep looking backward was because of the level of acceptance and understanding that these men gave me when coming to grips with my illnesses and limitations, but maybe I am kidding myself, maybe there are others out there that would be willing to do the same if I just gave them the chance. But I have been running for so long and hiding from the real me by using drugs for so long that it is hard now that I am sober to see any future for myself at all. My best friend Robert Miller got married and him and I used to joke that when we were old and gray together that we would open Mommas Home for Homeless Homosexuals a senior gay retirement community and would chase each other around in our wheelchairs. Guess that isn't going to happen, guess I am always going to be on my own.
For the past 4 years I have been with someone who never wanted to sleep with me because he was afraid of catching HIV, I missed the intimacy and the closeness, but I settled because I thought that the companionship was enough, and I was happy getting high and taking care of everyone else in my life. But, in truth I wasn't totally there for him, I had so many other needy people in and out of my life that I was trying to help that him and I really never had any time to ourselves or were alone. For that I am truly sorry, and I have been for almost a year now trying to make up for the mistakes of the past that I made with him, and nothing really seems to help. He has grown more distant and withdrawn than he ever was. I haven't heard from him in over a week and I am worried about him. I know in his own way that he loves me, but we aren't right for each other, I want more than he is willing to give. I want a real relationship with love, intimacy, closeness, tenderness and compassion, and I think that I deserve that in my life.
So here I am alone for once but am I at peace with myself? No, is the answer to that. I want more out of life than what I have gotten. I really do want a true relationship, with someone who isn't afraid to tell others that I am their lover and that we are together, who doesn't mind holding me and telling me that they love me. Like I said I have been so used to being surrounded by others and taking care of so many other people that I honestly don't know how to take care of myself at all. The one person who ever treated me like how I wanted was the person I treated the worst his name was Sterling Williams and he is the person I told our story wasn't finished yet. I don't know if we will ever get back together, but he is the only person that I was ever in a relationship who never asked me out and I didn't ask him out it just happened. We lived together and he wasn't embarrassed by me, he introduced me to his family and friends as his lover and even told his mother about me right away. Funny how all of that transpired so long ago and how angry that made so many people. But that was a different life and so much has happened, who know if and when we will ever see each other again.
But no I am not at peace with myself. I don't see a future a head of me and I only see a road full of doubts. I am trying desperately to figure out how to live by myself and take care of myself. I want to finally be able to give myself to someone else if the time presents itself with no baggage dragging behind me and no clingers either. I no longer open my home to the homeless and help them off the streets. Instead I give them clothes, and blankets, gift certificates for food and I let them work out the escape plan to get off the streets. I also offer them guidance through my blog and my daily life. There are agencies out there that will help them, traveller's aid is one that will give you temporary emergency housing and help you come up with a plan to move from homelessness to productivity. I recommend giving them a call and seeing what they can do.
I am learning and I know that I am old, but whoever said you can't teach and old dog new tricks is totally wrong. Because, I am living proof that insanity isn't healthy for any of us. Albert Einstein stated that "insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result". I am through being insane, and I am ready to embark on a new life with a new purpose and a new adventure. My mission of giving hope and peace to others is still intact and sound, but I want to offer more, guidance, inspiration, motivation and education as well.
I have been through so much and have learned a lot, but there is so much more for me to experience out there. I am thankful for the strength I have received from the trials I have been through, if I can give hope and inspiration to just one person then my life and all the pain I have been through is worth it. I will learn how to adapt and I will learn how to take care of myself and I will survive. I hope you will too.
As always my hopes and dreams are with you,
Uncle B

The Past is never far away
Just a week ago, I went into work and was called into the office. The district manager came in and sat down and began talking to me. My background check came back with some issues that he wanted to address. I was told that there was a couple of items that showed up while GameStop was doing my background check. I knew immediately what they were talking about. For those of you that remember last summer back in July I got in trouble with a misdemeanor that ended up violating my probation that I was place on for cashing a bad check. Now, it was my understanding that when I appeared before Judge Case in Daytona that this matter was finished an over with. As a matter of fact I was sentenced to 60 days in Jail and upon completion was deemed non adjudicated. The district manager asked me for my side of the story, I explained it to him and was told that I needed to bring in the paperwork from the court showing the dispensation of the charges. I immediately called the public defenders office in Volusia County and within 15 minutes I was bringing them the paperwork that they had asked for.
The very first page showed the adjudication withheld status, but I was still told that I was going to be suspended till legal could look over the document and give the district manager their input as to whether or not the company was going to continue to utilize me. I was upset and frustrated by this decision because I think that it was totally unfair and with everything else that was happening in my life with my friend Travis's lover in the hospital I certainly felt that this was the worse possible timing that could have happened.
But the rub of the story is that I was off the entire weekend and when I was actually scheduled to work, and as I was getting ready to go back to work for the following Tuesday because I saw that my name was still on the schedule. I got a call from the store manager and was told that Spring Mobile had decided to part employment. I was very upset and sent a message to the district manager asking him to call me back and fill me in on the whole decision. He promptly returned my call, but explained that as far as he could tell from what the legal team was telling him was that I was incorrect in my assertion that adjudication was withheld. I was given a number to call and I called them immediately and launched an investigation and requested that more research be done on my behalf and asked for the decision be reversed.
I was told that the process would take about 2 weeks and that the employer would be notified, but here is what happened. I was removed from all the email and chat groups, and my work email was terminated immediately. I still haven't heard back from the investigator about what was happening with my request and here it is a week later and I am gainfully unemployed and have no real prospects of anything else.
As always my hopes and dreams are with you!

Memories
As we look back across our lives it is amazing at the things that spring to mind. A simple song can evoke the sweetest memories, that can bring a brilliant smile to your face. Passing a familiar spot can herald a bright spot in an otherwise dreary day. But memories are funny things, they often become colored by time. Even the worst experiences don't look so bad after time has passed by.
Most of my friends seem to pass through life, never taking stock of the people, places and things that they encounter. One friend said today that he keeps moving forward never looking back at anything. He feels that he can't keep up his forward momentum if he is constantly looking backwards. While he has a valid point. I tend to think a little differently on a minor particulars.
Like most people when his relationships end, he keeps it moving. In almost every instance I can think of if a relationship ends there were issues that were the caused it to end. Those same issues are more than likely still be there if the person comes back into your life. But, that doesn't mean that you have to write that person out of your life totally.
True good friends are few and far between. Each one of us don't have so many friends that we can afford to write any of them off. I have remained friends with the majority of my ex's, because the shared history that we have are what have bound us together and is the basis of our friendship. There have been 1 or 2 instances where I have tried to rekindle a past relationship. But like I said earlier, there were issues that we felt so strong about that caused us to go our separate ways, and they always seem to crop back up.
Relationships that are founded on mutual respect and trust have a foundation that's worth investing time in and are the easiest to convert to a lasting friendship. It is important to keep in mind that every person that has come into your life was brought there for a specific reason. We grow and learn from each other, we have a need that the other filled in some fundamental way.
You may be wondering why in an entry about memories would I digress to talk about friendships and relationships? The truth of the matter is that each and every person who enters your life touches you in a fundamental way, memories of these people, places and events are indelibly written in your subconscious which at some point become memories.
Memories are precious things and they evoke an emotional response when they pop in our minds. Like I said at the beginning of the post time can make even the most terrible experience seem not so terrible when you look back. Be careful because if you compare new experiences to a remembered experience you might think that the past was better and be unhappy. Which just might make you think that nothing will ever be able to compete with your past and you might miss out on something truly remarkable.
People all around you see what you are going through and how you deal with life's situations and problems. You might be surprised at how your actions and reactions to certain situations inspires and gives another a sense of hope and peace. Beacause no matter what you are actually going through there are others out there going through something similar or maybe even worse and they see how you are handling it and it gives them that extra push to help them make it through. Remember always that a casual conversation can take you somewhere that you never thought you would ever go. Random encounters can inspire and give hope to others and who knows might bring someone into your life at the right moment to help you through as well.
Memories are not perfect and they are a snapshot of time from our own unique perspective. Plus, keep in mind that someone else's memory of an event might not even be close to what you remember because each of us filter things differently and are truly seen from our own perspective.
Remember the good times, the in between times and the bad times, in the end as you look back over time you will be amazed at the things you have come through, survived and have learned. These are pieces of shared history between you and whoever you were with and they can never be taken away from you. If you are embarking on a new relationship try your best not to compare it to your past relationships, because one of you is always going to feel that they can't compete with the past because to them your rememberance focuses mainly on the good and positive times.
Everyone deserves their own chance, remember your past fondly, be proud of what you have accomplished and have learned, know that you have survived and been strengthened by each and every event. Hold on to your memories share them when appropriate and find your true happiness within your heart and mind.
As always my hopes and dreams are with you,
Uncle B

Leave it alone!
So tonight I am going to talk to you about the past. See there is nothing you can do to change the past, what has happened cannot be changed no matter what you wish. I have to tell you that when you look back over your life, you are going to see so many things that you will want to change. But the secret here is that you can do nothing but change whatever it is inside of you that made you act that way. It was your actions, choices, deeds and who you hung around that influenced those actions that caused those mistakes. If you truly want to learn and change then you have to self reflect, you have to do some deep soul searching. The answer is right there inside of you. You have to change yourself, change your environment, change those that you associate with. In other words, if you are truly serious about change you need to start over, reinvent yourself. Take those pains and aches of the past and turn them around. Know that you can, you are the only one that has that power. Remember looking backwards is 20/20, you can see everything when you look backwards. Here is something that you might not realize, but the past starts right now, this very moment. You have to understand that everything up until this exact moment is your past. For we do not know what the next minute will bring, but because we are here and looking at this the present and the past must at some point must be one.
You cannot step forward, move into a new relationship or try anything new if you are carrying the baggage of your past with you. It will weigh you down and throw more stumbling blocks in your way at every turn. You have to accept the past and accept that you can do nothing about it. You may be able to learn from it and change the way you act if a similar situation comes your way. However, I have to tell you if you keep picking up that baggage no one is going to be able to handle all that you bring to the table. It will overwhelm those you are trying to start something with. So it is very important to forgive yourself and others so that you have the closure you need so that you can move on. Once you have closure you can drop those bags from the past that are weighing you down so heavily. Forgiveness is for you and you alone. Surrender your self-pity, and regain your self-esteem because you achieve balance by seeking knowledge. Truth and harmony are right there for you to pick up and take forward with you, but if your hands are full with your baggage of the past how can you pick up anything else?
You have to remember yesterday is dead and gone. You must deal with it as you do with all the things from your past, you must walk this walk alone. Remember that God is just a call away and will help take that burden off of your shoulders, but you have to be 100 percent honest with yourself and Him. Keep in mind that tomorrow has yet to begin and anticipate the journeys that may come to you on the new dawn. Adventure awaits the souls that are free, and who live in the moment. Time has no meaning now as the divine descends upon you. In the morning all things seem possible, there are no mistakes it is a clean new day. The slate has been cleansed and you get to start all over again. God will never ever give you more than you can handle. All the turmoil, adversity, hurt, and loss only serve to make you stronger. They give you hope for a new day and new start. Give thanks for the adversity that comes to you, because the next time you will have the knowledge and the strength to withstand it.
No one ever promised that life was easy. Who told you that you would only have a garden full of roses? If you had just roses the thorns would be so sharp that you wouldn't be able to enjoy them at all. But your garden is full of flowers, weeds, bees and so many other things. It is the variety and the spice that gives us adventure and life. Make the most of every day because they are a gift from God.
As always my hopes and dreams are with you,

Moving forward and letting go! (it can be really hard)
It took the loss of a dear friend this past week to pull my head out of the sand and look at the situation I have found myself in. See, I created the environment and made some poor decisions. Which for those of you that know me you know that this is nothing new for me. I have a tendency to push those that love me and want the best for me away and attract the ones that harbor ill interests. But, from my many conversations with Mary Benefield about my relationship issues and the trials that I have found myself in over the past year. I keep hearing her words over and over in my head "Bryan you can't choose who you fall in love with, but you certainly don't have to take the abuse and you have to cut your losses and let go." I finally did that when he left me in April I was devastated but it was my friend Mary that put things into perspective for me she said " you were on an emotional roller coaster and have cried and been hurt so many times, maybe you need to give someone else a chance." I am amazed at how astute her observations were and how well she had read the situation. Because once I stopped caring and took the first step forward, it became easier. Now, as the months have climbed and he has been away, I have finally found someone that has a mutual respect for me. We are closer in age and have so much in common. But, the circumstances under which we met and found ourselves in currently sure is something to write about another time.
It is funny how life bring people in and out of our lives at just the right moment. You know that there just has to be a cosmic hand guiding the choreography of our lives. I can't believe that chance brought you too me. No, I think it was God that planned this a long time before I was born. He knew the trials and fires that I would have to go through that honed and tempered me into the steel that I am today. The heat of the fires have cleansed the impurities from my life and have left sparkling shining steel. Life is a series of adventures, but remember adventures takes us on a circuitous route. When fate intervenes we are taken directly where we need to be. I think that today has been a day of learning and exploration for me. I am sitting with tear filled eyes thinking of my friend Mary, but I know she wouldn't want me to hurt. She would want me to be happy and use my head. So that is what I am doing. I am putting down what I am feeling and thinking about.
Sometimes the past just needs to stay where it is. It can only complicate things and cloud the future if you let it. So let go. Move forward and move onward. I have reached a conclusion this evening when my ex and his new boyfriend phoned and said that they wanted to come and see me. That they want to be my friend. But why now, what is the purpose of the visit? Why did the boyfriend have to ask me if I thought I would be uncomfortable? Something in this is just not adding up for me. So I am going to have to tell them that now is not the time to come. I am not sure why but I have a feeling that if I let them come all sorts of drama from my past is going to come flying up in my face. I think it is best to leave lying dogs lie right?
Mary would tell me that I am stupid, that I haven't thought this through and that I should tell them not to come. The person that I am seeing now has pretty much told me that he isn't down with the drama and that he doesn't feel comfortable with me meeting them without him here with me. See, sometimes you just have to have closure and once you have it you have to let go and move on. You can't be the friend that you were in the past and you don't honestly know how your emotions and feeling are going to react when you are in a situation like this. I am in agreement that I should pass on this visit for now. That I need more time I remember the pain, and the hurt that was caused when the ex left, do I really want to remove the light layer of skin that has finally covered that wound?
You can't take a step forward if you are tied to your past. There has to be a point in your life when you just let go and move on. You let those that left you behind sail on their own way because you have made it through the wilderness and you have made it to the other side. I cannot for the life of me understand why anyone would want to cling to their past. I analyzed my own past and realized that it was my own fear of rejection that was holding me in a state of perpetual hibernation and stagnation. I couldn't move forward or backward because I didn't accept myself for the person I am or have become. I was dependent on the images that others had of me. Now for the first time I am seeing the man staring back at me in the mirror and I do understand that in order for me to move forward I have to have complete acceptance of myself and what has become of me. I have to be comfortable in my own skin. I have to love myself and I have to embrace my uniqueness and as Mary would say "embrace your Awesomeness".
It is true each of is unique, we are awesome and have a story that makes us unique. We are an art piece that is coming together under the masters hands and we have to trust that He knows what He is doing. We are being molded, melded and formed for a specific task and everything that we have come through and endured have made it possible for us to be strong in the face of the odds arrayed against us. We are never alone in this world and nothing is beyond our reach and grasp if we embrace and accept ourselves for who we are. Understand and accept your limitations, disabilities and abilities. Take each new day and learn something new from it. For when you learn something new and share it with others it helps you move along the road of life.
No matter what you think or believe no relationship is painless and it won't last forever. True that love never dies truly, that there will always be some sort of feeling there for you, but you can move on when it ends. You can find someone new. Even if you were like my grandparents and endured a relationship for over 50 years. My grandmother died before my grandfather and left him alone. So even in a perfect world nothing lasts forever and nothing is permanent and if you take the chance to love, realize that eventually you are going to feel pain. Everything ends, everything has it season and then it is over. Life doesn't wait for anyone, get on and hold on tight because it is going to be a long and bumpy road with lots of obstacles, hurdles and pitfalls. But just wait till you get through you are going to be a unique piece of artwork, priceless and precious.
Let go of your past, it is holding you back. Embrace your fears, let go of your guilt. Accept that life is challenging and that you are learning new lessons every day. Keep in your mind always that this too shall pass, and you will be okay. Release, take that step, it is never to late for you to change and it is never too late to start over. Many of us have done it plenty of times. Each time we have started over the blessings of letting God have the reigns of your life and lead you is so rewarding you forget about the pain and fears and see only the positive blessings that are flowing your way.
2015 is a year of change, embrace it, jump on and hold on for dear life, because you are in for a journey and you never know where you are going to end up till this cycle is done. I honestly believe that life comes at us in a series of cycles and at the end of each cycle if we take stock of where we started and where we are at the end a great distance has been traveled and many lessons have been learned along the way.
So, I want you to take away something from this entry. I want you to realize that rebirth, renewal and strength are gained by the many trials you have faced and come through. Nothing last forever, nothing ever could. Life, love, happiness and hope are found within yourself and no where else. Complete and total acceptance of yourself is required for you to move onward and upward and when everything is said and done and your life has finally come to an end. You will know in your heart just truly how precious and priceless you really were and that so many lives were touched by your passing that you couldn't have ever guessed. It all starts and ends with you. Let go take that first step. It will be hard but I know you can do it. Embrace your own Awesomeness and let no man hold you down again.
As always my hopes and dreams are with you!

Reflections of the past
These reflections aren't painful now, but were once, I have learned so much from the time I left Florida and moved to Atlanta. I found out that you can't change your life for another person, because in the long run they aren't going to appreciate it. They are going to do something foolish and the next thing you know so are you. Had Joe never started smoking Meth, and me getting involved in the whole thing, my life would have been totally different.
I wouldn't have met some of the people that I have along the way. I wouldn't have gotten to experience all the different things that life showed me when I was living on Buford highway and again when I moved back to East Point. Nor would the brief stay in Dallas have marred my relationship with Victoria.
See, I know where my life veered off course, and I can see the issues that it caused. I am no longer sad, because at least I did those things, experienced them and had some fun along the way. I am sorry that Joe and Victoria got hurt, and that in my cavalier attempt to solve the problems, I found that running away to be the expedient answer. I am older now and I look back and I see the image of the man I was and the person I am today, and I am a totally different person, living in a totally different world. I am still on the fringes of the old drug infested life, but I feel the change in the wind and I know that I am going to be carried away in a different direction.
I know in my heart that I am not young anymore, that there are limitations to my physical abilities, but they have not changed much in 10 years, so what am I bemoaning about, what is the problem that is holding me steadfast to the past. Why can't I let the past rest in peace and overcome this obstacle?the answer seems to be me!
It is doubt my friend, doubt keeps you locked in place, freezes your steps and won't let you make a move. Fear is also a factor, what if I fail and what will happen to me then? These are the troubled thoughts that clog your mind and keep you from action and change. It is what keeps you in that dark place and keeps the light from clearing it all away. As I said in my last entry that I have had patches of light in my darkness, but I see clearly that I could move forward if I just let go of the past. Forget where I have been and let go of the fears that are holding me captive.
I look in the mirror and I see a shadow of the person I used to be. A shell, a caricature. I used to be a powerhouse, a go-getter. When I set my mind to a task or wanted something I went out and did it. I had no fear, I was confident and sure in my knowledge and grabbed what I want. Now, time has caught me, I am older, handicapped, different than I used to be. I have had the colostomies, I have had so many surgeries and injuries and hospital stays, that I fear I will never find someone who could or would accept me the way I am in the gay community.
I am afraid that I will die alone, a very lonely and painful death. Unloved and not mourned by anyone other than my family and close friends. See, I know the gay community, I know that they look for the perfect man, they want the washboard abs, the bulging peck muscles, the young stallions, not someone old and frail like me. So, I keep looking to my past to the ones that have loved me before that know my illness and what I have been through, hoping desperately that one would come back into my life.
Yet, I know that isn't likely to happen. I know that the problems of the past that caused us to break up will most likely still be an issue once more. So I am in a catch 22 sort of situation. But I am starting to finally come to terms with my life and what it has become. I am starting to finally become comfortable with my body, and the limitations it has. I think that I may even be ready to take a baby step forward. We shall see mon a'mi!
Looking backwards into the past will keep you wondering and wandering in the darkness, it will keep you locked into your doubts, and can lead to depression and despair. Please don't let your fears keep you in place. Don't be like me and waste so much of your life clinging to the baggage of the past that you forget to live in the moment.
A reflection doesn't always reveal the truth, you have to look closer. I have said that I see a dim shadow of the man I was. But the secret to all of this is that I still see him, and if I see him, I can still be him. I just need to get my confidence and courage and move forward. I have to let go totally of the past and move on. Was I happy in the past? Oh, definitely at times! Yet, there were times when I was saddened. Reflections are only 2 dimensional they aren't the total picture.
Don't let your reflection and the face staring back at you hold you in your past. Release it, let it go, live in the moment. Enjoy the vibrant color and texture of life. See how much more fun and relaxed you will be when you are just living in the moment.
As always my hopes and dreams are with you,

Alright God I am listening!
Dear readers, in order for you to understand my confusion and pain I will have to go back and tell you of my year and maybe as I recount the events that have happened too me, I will be able to glimpse or glean the message that I was supposed to have learned on this journey. Trust me you should probably sit yourself down for this narrative because it is a long one and starts at the very beginning of the year and is one in which I plan on telling you everything because somewhere there is a message I am sure of it.
Well, lets bring you all up to speed, then you will begin to see why I haven't written here in my blog very much at all this year at all. January my partner and I were in Atlanta visiting. He had wanted to go up there to check in with his probation officer. I decided to go with him, I was tired of chemotherapy and all the medical treatments and appointments I had been going through. What I didn't know was that trouble was waiting for us on this trip and was going to change my life in a drastic way forever.
Everything was going okay we arrived and checked into the hotel with absolutely no problems at all. I was tired but that was nothing new with the chemo that I was going through but we rushed into the hotel. I told him to bring in his weed from the car as we were carrying in the luggage, and he said "Naw just leave it there it is just a little bit and I will come down and get it later." Famous last words, we were in the hotel for 2 days and it remained in the car. But that day he decided that he was going to go out and get us something to eat, I had to do my chemo that evening and it always seemed to make me more sick if I didn't eat right before I did it. So he left the hotel, I was in the shower and I only had one bag of clothes we had left most of our other stuff in the car because we were going to change hotels the next day. This included the rest of my medications and all of my other medical supplies. I had no idea that disaster was about to strike and leave me in a very bad situation for the next 10 to 15 days.
What really happened that night I will never really know, all I am aware of at this time is that he was stopped and arrested, they had found the weed in the car and he was taken away with everything we owned. I waited and waited to hear from him. I finally got a call at 4 in the morning saying that he was arrested and that the car had been impounded. So early the next morning I called every towing company that the dekalb county police used and finally found the car. I called to see if I could get at least my stuff out of the car if not all of the stuff. I explained that my medication, clothes and computers were in the car and that I needed them due to my cancer and illness. I was told that if I could get a letter from the rental car company saying it was alright for the towing company to release the personal items too me I could come and get them. Well, the rental car company wouldn't budge and let me have my possessions because I wasn't on the rental agreement. This was the first time that he had rented the car solely in his name and because of that I was not given permission to get what I needed.
I was left in the hotel with no clothing, no medical supplies and very limited money because we were supposed be going home soon, we had already spent a week in the hotel and the plan was to leave that weekend and it was Wednesday when he got arrested. I had only enough money to stay in a hotel for 2 more days. Which is what I did, because I knew if he got out of jail he would know where to look for me and come back there. At this time I didn't know that the car had also been wrecked, either by him or during the towing process. All I know in the subsequent months since then that they have been coming after us to get payment for damages to the car in excess of what it was actually worth, and as of today I still do not have the belongings that were in the car.
Here I was in Atlanta pretty much stuck with no clothing, no ostomy supplies and no medication, and I knew that I wasn't supposed to stop the chemotherapy suddenly but what choice was there all the medication was locked up in the car and I had no way to get it out. I had no transportation and I was running out of money rapidly. Luckily I ran into an acquaintance, who was hanging out with one of my ex's. They were able to take me to my best friends house and I was able to stay there in safety till I could find a way home. The same acquaintance that took me to my best friend Chris's house offered to bring me back home to Florida if I paid for the gas. I agreed and we left now mind you by this time I had been staying at my friend's house for about 2 weeks, my ostomy appliance was falling off and my skin was burned from acid and erosion. My ex's mother came and took me to the VA hospital in Atlanta and they were able to fix me up with some temporary supplies till I could get home. My ex Sterling ended up in the hospital for several days during this time he had a massive urinary tract infection and got extremely sick. So as you can tell nothing particularly was going my way already.
But, Mike the acquaintance that Sterling was hanging with was true to his word and brought me back to Daytona. He also decided since he had no money to return right away to stay with me for a little while. i am extremely glad that he did, even though his presence was later to cause great harm and yet save my life at the same time. I was home 3 days when I had an aneurysm, if Mike hadn't gotten back to my apartment when he did and found me passed out in the bathroom bleeding all over the floor and called 911 I would have bled to death and died. I had lapsed into a coma for 4 days and ended up having 28 blood transfusions and 3 surgeries, I barely pulled through. I woke up to see my partner and Mike sitting next too me, it brought me strength and I was soon awake fully. However, while I was out Mike had gone to Atlanta and gotten my partner, who was released from jail. He also proceeded to get all of his belongings out of storage and bring them down to Daytona, along with almost a full ounce of Methamphetamines. During the 9 days I was in the hospital my partner and him started getting high and having sex with all kinds of people and bringing people into my apartment which got the neighbors all upset.
Once I found out I tried to put a stop to the problem but the damage was already done, my partner was totally lost to the drugs, he had been shooting up a lot more than him and I had ever done and he was on a binge that was going to tear us apart. Not even 3 weeks after my release from the hospital both my partner and Mike were back in Atlanta and I was left all alone. I came to find out that neither my partner or Mike had paid rent while I was in the hospital and they were both gone and I was 3 months behind in rent, utilities and cable. I talked to my dad about the situation and we both agreed that maybe I should try getting a girl roommate this time to help me get my bills caught up. That was the worst mistake I have ever made in my life because the girl that came in came with a lot of baggage and friends and I ended up getting robbed twice and losing all my possessions. But that wasn't the worst my neighbors didn't like her friends and kept calling the police on me saying that suspicious activity was happening in my apartment and so the police became involved with my life.
I ended up getting arrested on possession of paraphernalia charges 3 times, as a matter of fact I am still going through some of those legal procedures right now and hopefully will have them wrapped up before the holidays. I stayed in my apartment as long as I could my father and my step mother helped me out as much as they could to get caught up on the bills. But the damage was done, the neighbors and the police arrests got back to my landlord and I had to move from my home without any warning or notice due to suspicion and rumours. I was never arrested or charged with doing drugs, but everyone in the complex assumed or heard tale from one of the old women that lived there that I was a drug dealer and that I was doing and selling them out of my apartment. That is how my recovery from the aneurysm and summer went. On Memorial day weekend my back started hurting. It hurt so bad that I went to the E.R. an x-ray was taken but nothing abnormal showed up on the x-ray so they sent me home with some pain pills.
Let me digress for a minute or two here. I will never again sneeze or laugh at anyone who says that their back hurts, because I will tell you there is nothing like back pain, it is the worst kind of pain that you can experience because that is where are the nerves are and once it starts hurting your entire body feels the pain and you end up weak and not able to do even the smallest things. Well, on with the narrative, my back started hurting and I ended up in bed for almost 2 weeks doing only the absolute minimum to get by. Well from May till September I endured the pain in my back and it got progressively worse and worse. I ended up moving back in with my dad and step mom. I was here about 3 weeks when I finally had enough I had been to the emergency room 19 times and was continually told that there was nothing wrong other than a strain. Finally I got my primary care physician to look into it a lot closer. Now, you may be wondering why it took me so long to get my primary involved. Several factors actually, my dad telling me that I was faking it and that the pain was in my head, my ex coming back to get his clothes and not believing me that I was in pain and could barely drive and then my primary care doctor being out of the country for 2 1/2 months on some family business.
So finally, I ended up going to have an MRI and with just one pass of the machine, i was pulled out and wheeled into see the Radiologist. He asked me how I had gotten to the office to have the MRI and I told him that I had driven, he asked me if there was anyone who could come and get my car. I told him that my dad and step mother were in Ormond Beach. He wasted no time calling my father and telling him to come and get me and my car because I needed to be admitted to the hospital immediately I had a massive infection that was attacking my back and causing my vertebrae to collapse upon themselves and that if something was done to treat the infection I would be paralyzed in a matter of weeks. I was immediately taken to the hospital where I remained for 15 days and from there I was put into a nursing home and rehab center where I stayed for 3 months. Which brings me to the current.
I have been out of the nursing home a week and I have been doing okay. Though I have had back to back doctors appointments since I have gotten out of there. I have to tell you I have met with every doctor from neurologist to primary care, from surgeon to oncologist, even the neurosurgeon. I was given hope that I could possibly have surgery and alleviate or even eliminate the pain I have in my back. But, yestday was a day full of surprises. First some good news and then some not some good news. I found out that the tumors that I had removed on November 7th were benign and I will not have to go through additional chemotherapy. Remember that I had chemotherapy starting in October of last year that ran up till February of this year. So that at least is good news. The bad news comes from the neurosurgeon with whom I met this afternoon at 2 pm. It is unfortunate that he feels that he cannot operate to fix the hump in my back or do anything to alleviate the pain. According to him I will have to continue to endure this pain and walk with a cane or walker for perhaps the rest of my life. Now after speaking with my primary care physician last week I was under the impression that I would be able to go through a procedure called kyphoplasti. Kyphoplasti is a procedure that people who have osteoporosis can sometimes have the rebuilds you the vertebrae and would eliminate or at least alleviate some of the pain that I am going through. Upon research I had found cases where at least 3 levels of thoracic kyphoplasti have been performed successfully, unfortunately I would have to have 5 levels rebuilt and I was told in no uncertain terms that I would not survive the surgery and that he didn't even think him or any other surgeon would attempt to operate on me with my case history and surgical past.
I honestly didn't think that I could feel any worse from that news and situation but then here is how my day today went. I guess today was not supposed to be my day either. After the shock of hearing all my health news I went home and went to bed never once noticing til yesterday morning that my wallet and every piece of identification was gone. I had an appointment with my case manager to recertify my Ryan White funding for another 6 months when I noticed for the first time my wallet was missing. I have searched my room high and low and cannot find it. Further, it was pouring rain all day yesterday and as you now know I walk with a cane. My case manager to help me told me to bring the car up to the curb so my paperwork wouldn't get wet. She would run it out to the curb as I pulled up. Well alas a good idea but as she was coming to the car the folder gave out and every piece of paper fell in the downpour and was soaked. As you can well imagine my mood and depression deepened. I came home an immediately climbed in my bed. It is now 1:58 am and I am just getting up, and it is still raining. It is almost like the sky is responding to the flood of tears in my heart. I pray that God will give me the strength to push through these setbacks and gain an understanding of why He has chosen me to carry these health issues and what I am meant to learn/teach because I fear I have missed the point!
So there you have it. Almost dying, losing my home, my man, my credibility, my reputation, now my health and possibly my future of living a pain free existence as well as being dependent on walking aids to get around for the rest of my life. I need you Lord to explain to me what it is that I have missed, what is the lesson that I am expected to learn, what should I have gotten from this journey, the pain, the loss and where do I go from here?
I am remaining faithful as you commanded Job because I see how you rewarded him for his stalwartness and I trying to be the man that you need and want me to be. But I am struggling and grasping at things here. Please Lord talk to me. Make my way clear and give me the grace, guidance and strength that I need to gain this comprehension. I know that I am strong enough because you wouldn't have given me this burden if I wasn't. So I am asking you to have Mercy on Your child and grant me the wish of my heart. A joyful and happy Thanksgiving.
AMEN

The One That Got Away!
Each of us has had relationships in the past, but for some reason we have a tendency to compare our current relationship to those that have come before it. As I said we glamorize it and make it out to be better than it was. What we must keep in mind is that no two individuals are ever alike, and that in similar circumstances those same two people are going to react and handle the situation in a totally different manner. Now, what some of you may not realize, is that by constantly comparing your current to the past, it is keeping you from accepting the new relationship as it is being presented to you and you are alienating your current from committing to you, because they don't honestly think that they can compete or compare to your ex. So what tends to happen is that you end up pushing that person away, they are disillusioned from constantly hearing about your past and how perfect your relationship was. When the truth of the matter is that if your relationship from the past was so great then answer me this, why aren't you still with that person in the first place. What you have to remember is that the problems you faced and caused you to break up are still there, they haven't changed or gone away, you just don't feel the intense emotional and physical pain that you did when you were with that person.
I am sure some of you have found that out. You have gone back to the ex, and had expected that the person and the situation had changed, but the truth of the matter was the original reason why you two broke up is still there and will come back. All those petty annoyances that if taken individually would be acceptable, but when added together become something altogether different. See, each of those petty annoyances added together become a huge problem and you find that you cannot overcome it. Therefore the relationship once again suffers and you end up breaking up all over again. But what about the one that you didn't give the chance too? The one that you pushed away with your constant comparisons? What about him or her? Are you willing to go back and admit that you were wrong, that you were sorry that you didn't give them a chance or do you just walk away and try all over again? If you are like me in most cases you would walk away and try again, but what if you find out that the one that you let go, is the one that you really want, that they are the perfect compliment to you? What would you do then? Well, again, if you are like me you would do anything in your power to try and get back the one that got away.
Sometimes that isn't possible, sometimes there are circumstances and situations that are beyond your control. Other times it may not be the right time for the two of your to be together, so you have to wait. I have told one of my ex's that our story is not yet over, and I mean that with all of my heart. I think that somewhere in the future there is going to be a perfect time and place that is meant for just us and in that moment we will be united and get back together. Though as I have grown and matured, I have started to doubt that! We had our moment, and though there is some connection still between us and feelings that have not yet been resolved, we have proved that we can be great friends. See it has been a long while since we were together, and we did spend three years as a couple and during that time we both made some very bad mistakes, but at the end of it all we have come back together as friends. I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that I still love and care for him, I just am not sure that we will ever get back together. See, God has a funny way of making things like this work out in our daily lives. What if when I told him that our story wasn't finished, meant that the rest of our story was to be as best friends versus lovers? See, whatever the case maybe he has moved on and so have I.
I am not sure what the future holds for us right now, he is very ill and so am I. So does that mean that one day we are destined to be together again as boyfriends and lovers? Or does it mean that we are going to always be close friends and care about each other till the day we die? I can't answer those questions, but I do know that no matter what happens in my life or where I go from here, he will always be a part of me. The time that we spent together cannot be replaced by anyone and no one can take away the memories and adventures that we faced and overcame together. So what does this mean for my current relationship? Well, it means that I am not going to change anything, or spare my feelings, that I am not going to compare the two together because they are totally different. But it also means is that if my current and my ex can't get along then maybe they need to come to some sort of compromise for my sake. See the person that I am with now, was the person that I let get away from me once in the past, and though my feelings for him are very strong, I am beginning to understand that the person that I once knew may not be the person I am with today. See, just as I have grown and matured so has he, and the changes have been dramatic.
I cannot see the future, I do not pretend to know the Mind of God, and I wouldn't want to even if I could know. See, half of the fun of a relationship is the melding of the two individuals into a whole unit, it is the discovery and getting to know one another in a more intimate level that adds mystery and suspense to the equation and keeps us wanting to explore and learn more. Now, if at the end of my discovery phase I find that I cannot accept all of the things my partner does, I will at least have formed a lasting bond that will last till the end of my days. See, I know that I love the person I am with, but I also know that there are somethings that he does and has done that are not to my liking or taste, and if I am wanting to be with him, I have to come to grips with that and accept them as face value or I have to walk away. Believe it or not I am not sure which takes the stronger person, to accept, or walk away. What I do know is that as you grow and mature, and so do they, if your progress isn't on the same lines, then you might have to walk away, I wouldn't want you to compromise your morals or scruples just to stay with someone.
Now with that being said let me talk a little more about why I started mulling over the past as my birthday approached. See, it has become evident that though the partner I am with has told me the words, and has made promises, I am not 100 percent sure that he is keeping them or his promises. See, I know how hard it is to break free from addiction and a certain phone conversation brought home the point to me very well. He isn't at the same point I am emotionally or physically, he is still wanting to reach back into the past and do what we had promised each other we wouldn't. Now this is frightening to me, because he told me that he was past all of that, that he wasn't sleeping with others or doing drugs and here I find out that he might be anyway. His family certainly seems to think so, and then there are the days that go by when I can't reach him on the phone, his refusal to let anyone know that he is with me or dating me. On the list goes. See with my ex it was never an issue, he had no problem letting others know that we were together, and there really were no secrets between us, and I am afraid that I have walked right into a trap. That the cute words, the platitudes of love, are just that. So maybe the one that I let get away should have stayed away.
But the real reason why I have been thinking about those questions and words, is because I am getting older, I am no longer going to find it easy to find someone that can and will accept me with my limitations and physical deformities. Life just isn't as fair as it should be when it comes to love and relationships in the gay community. So, what if what I think is a relationship is nothing more than someone playing on my insecurities, and here I have taken what was said at face value and plunged right in headfirst. I have told you before that we truly never really know what is going on in the minds of others and that there is no way we can read their thoughts and know what is actually going on. So what I have been doing is looking at the past relationship that I was comfortable with that ended because of circumstances beyond my control and the one that I am currently in. I am doing what I told you not to do. I am comparing them, and trying to see if there is a pattern here that I should be aware of. Amazingly, I have to stick with my original assessment, though I love my ex very much, there doesn't seem to be much of a chance that him and I will get back together, and though I know that my current is out there doing whatever it is that he is doing, I have to trust that he is not lying to me and feeding me a bunch of lies to get to his own end.
So do me and yourself a favor, take the chance and the risk of going back after the one that you let get away. Who knows you may find yourself in a loving and productive relationship that makes you feel secure and safe. You owe it to yourself to take the chance, find out once and for all. Because you want to know something, whatever is lost can be found again and that also includes love! So, if like me you are going through it and aren't sure what the outcome is going to be, you can take comfort in the knowledge that you gave it a try and if it works great and if it doesn't "Oh Well" life goes on and you can try it again. Keep in mind that when you do go back, and if you cannot get past those things that caused you to break up in the first place that your relationship is going to be doomed to fail just as it did before. However, if you are truly willing to work and come to concessions and compromise on those things, maybe coming back together isn't so impossible after all. But you do owe it to yourself to see if the one that you let get away wasn't the one you were supposed to be with. You might just be surprised, they could be the one, or prove to you that the one in your past was the one. Only you can decide.
Now if you have gotten through all of this you might see the pattern of my thoughts as they emerged in this writing. See, my thoughts are cyclical here. I started out with my thought, went to the one that got away and eventually came back to the one that you left. So what is the right answer, only you can tell, but if you don't try you will never know for sure and those doubts might come back to bite you one day. I know that Sterling and I will always be friends, and I know by now that he knows where he stands in my heart and my life. But I also know that I am willing to give Kerry a chance and see what turns out to be the future, either he is telling the truth and really wants to be with me or he doesn't and time will be the deciding factor in this.
I keep telling you that time is short and you never know where you are going to end up or how much time you are going to have. So you owe it to yourself to try and find love, and be happy. You are the only one with the power to make you happy, so explore every relationship and learn, live and experience. Because when you finally do find your soul-mate you are going to know beyond a shadow of a doubt.
As always my hopes and dreams are with you,

You know secrets come with a price, they aren't free not now not ever!
Try to keep in mind that secrets have a toll on you too, they add stress and worry to your life, and once you start keeping them either by hiding them with lies or by silence, it starts to truly add weight on your shoulders. Once you start telling lies you have to keep telling them in order to keep them hidden. It becomes a never ending task and sooner or later someone is going to catch you at it. When they do there goes the trust that you have built up with them. Life is too short to have secrets and lies in your life. Especially if you are in a relationship. How can a person really know you if you are keeping things back from them. As I have always told you communication is the key and honesty is what is important. Being honest not only to your loved ones and family, but you always need to be totally honest with yourself. I know sometimes it seems easier to rationalize and lie to yourself, but at the end of the day you know what really happened and no matter how many lies you tell yourself it is not going to change the situation.
That is another thing about hiding the truth and lies, it ties you to them. How can you move forward if you are carrying around baggage of the past? Lies and secrets keep you firmly rooted to a story that just isn't true and you continually are brought back to it. You have to keep covering it up, and like I said lies upon lies is like building a house of cards, sooner or later one wrong move is going to bring the whole thing crashing down on you. Again, for your own peace of mind and that of the ones you care about you need to put everything out in the open. If you do that you will find that there is less stress in your life, and that if you stick together you can overcome any obstacle. Like they say 2 heads are better than one. Don't isolate yourself and keep yourself from truly experiencing love with another person because of lies. Secrets and lies are the same thing, believe me I know all about them. I used to do Meth, and that is a drug that manipulates the brain. Some people think more clearly on it and the lies they tell just to get the next hit or fix can leave your head spinning. The trouble is most people can see through those lies and see you for what you are and what you are doing, but your head is so filled with the drug you never even realize.
Don't take the risk of being alienated by your friends and family because you are trying to hide something. For years I didn't speak to my parents, because I was doing drugs, and was partying all the time, but also because I didn't want them to know what I was into. They knew because my ex told them. He told them when he thought I had gotten out of control. I was confronted by my mother, of course I denied it. It was my secret and I didn't want her to know. Then I got arrested for possession, however, in that case I was telling the truth that it wasn't my stuff, however because my parents knew about the drug use and I had denied it, they didn't believe me. Luckily I got off of the charges, but it isn't something that I am willing to go through again. Hence the reason why I put everything out on the web. I have nothing to hide anymore. I have come to far and lived through too much to go back and start hiding who I really am now. See the truth of the matter is when Sterling and I were dating he and I did way more drugs than we should have. We were doing so much that others couldn't believe it. It wasn't a proud time of my life let me tell you. When we both came to realize how much we were really doing and how utter ridiculous we had been, and what risks we had taken, we both cut way back, but hadn't quit entirely.
Then later on it started coming to light to everyone around us about how much we did. It was even thrown in my face a couple of times by a number of people that I had gotten so many people hooked on the stuff. Do you know how scary it is to find out that you were responsible for hundreds of young men shooting up Meth? Over and over again I hear how "oh, I know Bryan, he was the one that taught me how to slam" That is not a fond reputation that I like having. I was always safe, made sure that people knew what they were doing and how to mix up the stuff. I also stayed with them and provided them a safe place to do the stuff, but that isn't the point. The point is I may have ruined a great many of lives just by teaching them slamming. Meth is not a drug to play with lightly, it is not physically addicting like heroin, it alters the brain, and is a mental addiction that is extremely hard to break. You can be away from it for years and still think about the feeling, you still get the longing for it. I don't know how else to explain, but it is true. I don't think you ever truly escape it's grasp. But as I have told you in the past, you can't escape your past! What was hidden and done in the dark always comes to light!
I cannot change my past, the only thing I can do is try to make the right choices in the future and move forward. I have to let go of the past no matter how hard that is. One of the reasons why people hold on to the past is because they tend to remember it better than it was, and they view the present harder than it really is. It is always nicer to compare what is happening in our lives with the past, we have a tendency to make it out that things were better back then, but in actuality they were probably pretty much the same. The difficulty level only changes when we learn to change the way we look at things. We have a tendency to make up stories and hide the truth of things when we are not satisfied with what we have or where we are at in life. What happens then is that the lies spin out of our control and before we know it you are defending something that isn't real.
Life is what we make out of it, as I have told you before. If we constantly embellish, lie or be secretive about ourselves how can we expect anyone to ever get to know the real you? How can you honestly find someone that can love you? Do you want to be alone forever? I know that I don't. Even now I am hoping against hope that someone will find me and love me for the person I am. I used to live a life of lies and deceit but now I put everything out in the open for the world to see. I don't have any secrets to hide. I have lost too much in my life because of lying and secrets. I want to be free of that and find love and happiness. Which if you refer back to my earliest post you know that I know that happiness is found within ones self. But I also think that you can find happiness in another person. One that makes you better than you are and inspires you to do more than you have before. That is the type of love I want.
Do yourself a favor, when you meet someone new that you are interested in, be yourself, your true self. Don't embellish, make up stuff to make yourself look better. Just be who you are. Be sincere and genuine. I honestly think you will be much better off for it. Secrets and lies cost so much and will damage your relationship way faster than anything else. Be honest with yourself and the other person. Earn their trust and respect. Be their friend and confidant and trust me everything else will fall into place.
Try and remember that no secret is ever free, not now not ever!
As always my hopes and dreams are with you,
